LOCATION Wyoming, a state in the west US, is bordered on the north by Montana, on the east by south Dakota and Nebraska, on the south by Colorado, and on the west by Utah and Idaho. The capital and largest city is Cheyenne. Wyoming is also the least populous of the US states.
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS:
While the eastern side of the state marked by the Great Plains, the majority area is dominated by mountain ranges and rangelands.
CENTRAL: This region is well known for tree-covered mountains and lolling plains. Casper and the North Platte River run through the heart of central Wyoming. The main towns along the North Platte River are Chugwater, Wheatland, Glendo, Douglas and Glenrock. Visit the smaller towns off the main highways for sweeping vistas of this stunning land.
NORTHEAST: Bordered by the Big Horn Mountains on the west, South Dakota to the east, the Montana border to the north, the Thunder Basin National Grassland to the south, this region is rich in history. Northeast Wyoming was a location of a great deal of conflict between the Native Americans and white settlers. Check out the Powder River and Devils Tower National Monument, the two natural wonders of this area.
NORTHHWEST: The jewel in the crown of this region is the world-famous Yellowstone National Park. However, the region also blessed with other parks that are worth visiting for their natural splendor. Yellowstone was the first of America's National Parks and the Shoshone National Forest the first of America's National Forests. Check out Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole, the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Wind River Canyon and the Wind River Indian Reservation.
SOUTHWEST: This stark region is rich in natural resources - from minerals to fossilized remains of ancient animals in the layers of rock of Fossil Butte National Monument. At Fort Bridger, see the emigrant trails. Here visitors can get a sense of what those early pioneers saw in this region. Home to more than 1,600 wild horses, Southwest is the place for visiting these animals in the wild.
THINGS TO DO:
Grand Encampment Museum features the Doc Culleton Interpretive Center and collection of original buildings representing timbering, mining, and agricultural history of the region.
Museum of the Mountain Man: Situated in the heart of the country, the Museum stands as a monument to the men and the commerce that opened the West. It presents a visual and interpretative experience into the romantic era of the Mountain man and provides an overview of the Western Fur Trade's historical significance.
