Sequia National Park– an Introduction

The Sequoia National Park of California is a popular USA national park. The park is located in the southern part of Sierra Nevada to the east of Visalia. The national park is old and was established in the year 1890 as the second U.S. national park. The Yellowstone National Park is the first one to be designated as the first national park in U.S. The Sequoia Park is spread over an area of about 1,635.14 square kilometers. The park is well marked for its vast collection of valuable natural resources. Mount Whitney (4,421 m), the highest peak in contiguous 48 United Statesis also housed in this national park. The Kings Canyon National Park lies in close nearness to the Park and both of them are administered by the National Park Service as one unit and known as Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. One of the unique facts about the national park is that, the General Sherman, one of the largest trees in the world lies in this park. Besides, several Giant Sequoia trees can be seen all over the park and hence the name.

Visiting Sequia National Park

In order to explore Sequoia , one neeshould go on with elaborate hiking schedules along the different trails dispersed throughout the park. A drive through the Giant Forest along the General Hkighway will give one the opportunity to see the series of Sequoia trees. You can also have a quiet walk in the Giant Grove and feel the serene charm of the surrounding. A hike in the Mineral King will also be equally pleasant. If you are Sequoia Park, then never forget the chance of exploring the Kings Canyon Park. Drive to the becharming valley of Kings Canyon and visit the Cedar Grove, the Crystal Cave and climb the Moro Rock.

Camping: The way the visitors to the Sequia generally accommodate themselves is by caping out in the different campsites scattered throughout the park. Some of the campgrounds, which are located in proximity to the park, need to be booked before arrival. The campers must take necessary safety and protection measures from the bears, present in bulk throughout the park.

Opening Hours

ThePark is open throughout the year. The tourist season commence during the months of July and August. Thedensity of crowd generally depends on the weather of the place. If you are planning to visit the park during the weekend in the summer season then it will be wise to make a booking beforehand.

How to Reach

Air: The nearest commercial airport to the Sequoia is located in the city of Fresno.

Road: The road routes to be taken to reach the Park are Route 180 and Route 198. The route 180 runs east of the city of Fresno and the route 198 runs northeast from Visalia.

Rail: The city of Fresno is served by the Amtrak station and the rail route serving it is the San Joaquins Oakland - Bakersfield route.
