Rocky Mountain National Park– an Introduction

The Rocky Mountains National Park of Colorado are situated in the north-central region of the Colorado, the US state. The national park is very much well known for its beautiful surroundings decked with magnificent views of the mountain around, the various species of wildlife and the variety of climates and environment ranging from wooded forests to Tundra Mountains. The U.S national park also has easy access to backcountry trails and various campsites. The national park in U.S lies to the northwestern part of Boulder in the Rockies, and comprises the Continental Divide and the headwaters of River Colorado.The Rocky Mountains  are guarded by the Roosevelt National Forest on the north and east, the Routt National Forest on the northwest and the Arapaho National Forest on the southwest.

Visiting Rocky Mountain National Park

If you are visiting the Rocky Mountain Park then plan your itinerary in an elaborate way as there are enough to be discovered in the park. Start your day from the East Entrance and drive along the Trail Ridge Road till the Farview Curve. The spot indeed offers a classic vista of the mountains, valleys, and tundra around the park. Then move back and take the Bear Lake Road and approach towards the collection of scenic lakes. The Old Fall River Road provides a close look at the wooded mountains. It generally remains blocked by snow till the early part of July. One can drive all the way to Grand Lake on the west side the first day and take atrip to Bear Lake and enjoy excellent nature trails and day hikes. The different guided tours of Rocky Mountains make the trip much more full proof.

Camping: There are five drive-in campgrounds and one drive-in group camping area in the  Park. The two parks of Moraine Park and Aspenglen need reservation and all the group-camping areas also need to be booked at a prior date. The other park campgrounds offer accommodation on first-come, first-serve basis. The campsites are not fitted with modern facilities such as, electric, water or sewer hookups.The water supply is turned off during the winter at all campgrounds operating round the year. Drinking water is available at stations near the entrance and in open visitor centers.

Opening Hours

The Rocky Mountains Park are open 24 hours a day throughout the year. It is solely upto the visitors, that when they plan their entry and exit. If the plan is to stay overnight in a campground site or a backcountry campsite, then they are required to be reserved by a valid permit.

How to Reach

Air: The nearest airport to the Rocky National Park is located at Denver, which lies at a distance of about 70 miles from the south of the park.Colorado and Cheyenne are the other airports in proximity to the park

Road: The road route to be taken to reach the park is I-25 running to the north of Denver. It is about 77 miles away from the park and is about 90 miles away from Cheyenne in Wyoming. After taking this way, take the US 34 West at Loveland. If you are coming down from the west, then take the US 34 at Granby.
