San Francisco, also known as "The City by the Bay",
is the focal point of the Bay Area and is an integral part
of the greater San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland Combined Statistical
Area.
San Francisco is the second most densely populated major
American city after New York.
San Francisco is known for its steep rolling hills, an eclectic
mix of architecture and natural beauty, surrounded by the
Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay.
Famous hallmarks and
landmarks include the San Francisco cable cars and the Golden
Gate Bridge.
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Golden Gate Bridge is one of the finest bridges in
the world. It is the longest suspension bridge in the world
and is 1.2 miles long. While visiting the bridge take a ride
on the cable cars. There is also a Cable Car museum where
you can learn all about the makings of the cable cars.
Golden Gate Park comprises 1,017 acres, 10,000 trees
and shrubs, 11 gardens, two waterfalls, 11 lakes, and 40 picnic
areas round out the stats for this Bay City classic. Music
venues, the Strybing Arboretum and Botanical Garden, a children's
playground, a 10-acre buffalo paddock, and a gift shop are
just a few of park's attractions.
Alcatraz Island is another must-see as it sits out
in the San Francisco Bay. This is the site of the maximum-security
prison. It is located on a rocky island and makes an interesting
site to visit.
Lombard Street is a fascinating piece of roadway that
winds down a hill with beautiful flowers lining the sides
of the pavement. Built in 1920, it is known as the "Crookedest
Street in the World." This has eight angles along a single
block.
Fisherman's Wharf: There is lot of restaurants and
attractions on this piece of land and it is a great place
for a family outing. At the Pier 39, there are 110 specialty
shops and great seafood restaurants.
49 Scenic Mile Drive shows a lot of the scenic attractions
of the area. It starts at Hayes Street and Van Ness Avenue,
at the Civic Center in downtown San Francisco.
Exploratorium has nearly 650 exhibits for kids as
well as fir adults.
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has numerous works
of paper and 9,000 photographs for a total of over 15,000
pieces of works.
California Academy of Sciences has a penguin colony
in the aquarium while the Morrison Planetarium has a sky show.
If the kids are with you take them to The Randall Museum.
There are rooms for birds and lizards. It also has a petting
zoo room.
