LAS VEGAS is the most populous city in the state of Nevada. The city, a major vacation, shopping, and gambling destination, was established in 1905, and officially became a city in 1911. Las Vegas, the county seat of Clark County since 1909, is located in the Las Vegas Valley, a desert surrounded by the Spring Mountains and the Sierra Nevada.
