Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) is one of the renowned museums in U.S. that focuses on the life, language, culture, literature, arts and history of the native Western Hemisphere people. Established in 1989, Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian has three facilities, viz. the National Museum of the American Indian on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the George Gustav Heye Center in New York and the Cultural Resource Center in Suitland.

It is quite thrilling to explore the more than 825,000 items that represent history of more than 12,000 years as well as over 1,200 indigenous American cultures.
Not only has the collection of Native American arts, Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian also got a huge collection of images, audiovisuals and films. This U.S. museum has a photographic archive of around 324,000 images, dating back from 1860s. The Media Archive has about 12,000 items which include films and other audiovisual collections like phonograph discs, wax cylinders, 16 mm & 35 mm motion picture film, various magnetic media, optical and digital media from late 1800s onwards etc.
