National Gallery of Art – an Introduction
National Gallery of Art is a renowned national art museum of the United States and a popular hunting ground for thousands of visitors who have special interests in art. Established in the year 1938 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., National Gallery of Art is the home to over 2,000 sculptures, paintings, decorative art, and porcelains from Joseph E. Widener, as well as a range of other collections. Andrew W. Mellon, Lessing J. Rosenwals, and Samuel Henry Kress also played a pivotal role in enhancing the collection of this U.S. museum by donating a handful number of collections.

The Collections:

The permanent collection of modern as well as ancient paintings, spanning form the Middle Ages will surely attract the art lovers. Some of the most renowned collection of National Gallery of Art can be named as Italian Renaissance collection, the great tondo of the Adoration of the Magi by Fra Angelico, Feast of the Gods by Belini, Allendale Nativity by Giorgione, and works by Titan and Raphael. You will also find some of the finest western paintings of the greats like Van der Weyden, Hals, Grunewald, Cranach the Elder, Rembrandt, Goya, Vermeer, Ingres and others.
Audio Tours:
There are three types of audio tours available in National Gallery of Art. These audio tours add more dimensions to the attraction of the museum. The Director’s Tour, Adventures in Art, and the Special Exhibitions are quite interesting.
Guided Tours:
You can also take guided tour to the museum. A number of guided tours are arranged regularly. Guided tours in foreign languages are also available. The Introductory Tours will give you an introduction to the collections of various buildings. Guided tours are also available in foreign languages like Japanese, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Korean and German.
