Museum of Modern Art – an Introduction
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is one of the most popular art museums in U.S. located in Midtown Manhattan in New York, known for developing and collecting modernist art. Often regarded as world’s most influential museum of modern art, Museum of Modern Art has an incredible collection of modern and contemporary art including works of architecture & design, sculpture, paintings, drawings, photography, prints, and illustrated books. Museum of Modern Art also has a library as well as archives where a collection of more than 300,000 books, periodicals and also individual files of over 70,000 artists can be found. Visiting Museum of Modern Art
Museum of Modern Art is the house of some of the greatest collections of modern and contemporary art works. Many consider this U.S. museum to have the world’s best collection of modern Western masterpieces. You can see over 150,000 individual pieces of artworks. There are also about 22,000 films as well as 4 million film stills in the museum’s holdings. Some of the famous works that the museum has in its holdings include The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon by Pablo Picasso, The Sleeping Gypsy by Henri Rousseau, and The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali etc. Besides these, you can also see the works of eminent artists like Cindy Sherman, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Edward Hooper, Jasper Johns, and Chuck Close.
While in Museum of Modern Art, you will se some of the best art photography collection in the world. The film collection includes feature-length movies, music video and others. It also has got a commendable collection of important designs, including the works of Paul Laszlo, George Nelson, Isamu Noguchi and Eameses.
