Chicago Museum of Science and Industry – an Introduction
Chicago Museum of Science and Industry is one of the largest science museums in the world. Located in Jackson Park in Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry is the home to more than 35,000 artifacts. It also houses about 14 acres of hands-on scientific exhibits that would surely raise your inquiry and creativity level. This U.S. museum also has got in store a working coal mine, a 3,500 sq. ft. model railroad, a German submarine captured during World War II, NASA spacecraft of Apollo 8 mission and first streamlined stainless-steel passenger train powered by diesel engine.
Visiting Museum of Science and Industry
In Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, you have got to visit a number of permanent exhibits. Visit the Coal Mine inside the Central Pavilion of the museum; it’s a recreation of working deep shaft bituminous coal mine. The U-505 submarine is another attraction of this museum, which is one of the two German submarines captured during World War II.
Another attraction of Chicago Museum of Science and Industry is the ‘Take Flight’ where you will get almost the real experience of flying from San Francisco to Chicago on a Boeing 727 jet plane. You can also visit the Fairy Castle and The Great Train Story. The later one explains the story of transportation between Seattle and Chicago. For knowing more about air and land transportation, you need to visit the Transportation Zone. There is also the 999 Empire Express steam train as well as two World War II warplanes here.
Chicago Museum of Science and Industry is also the home to a number of interactive exhibits, which include Genetics: Decoding Life, ToyMaker 3000 etc. There is also interactive Fab Lab MSI.
Also visit the Henry Crown Space Center where you will see Apollo 8 spacecraft used on the first lunar orbital mission. Also are there some other exhibits like OmniMax Theater, Mercury Atlas 7 aircraft, and mockup of a space shuttle etc.
