SELF-DRIVE HOLIDAYS TIPS

1. Don't be too optimistic about how many miles you travel in a day. If you are, you will not give yourself any chance to pause if you come across a view or attraction that grabs your interest.

2. The salesperson at the car rental company is likely to try to talk you into an upgrade. As long as you are confident you have booked the correct vehicle for your needs, don't upgrade.

3. Once inside the car, don't set off immediately. Sit in the car for at least five minutes and workout where all the controls are for lights, indicators, windscreen wipers etc

4. The best way to solve the issue of drop off is to plan a circular route.

5. Book rooms before setting off. You can end up desperately looking for rooms when there is some 'event' going on in the town. Even having pre-booked, you can still have flexibility if you pay attention to the booking conditions.

6. Last, but not the least, carry all valid papers, licenses and insurance.
